Your Care Pathway

Initial Consultation

Your surgeon will take time to understand your individual needs and the treatments you’ve already tried; we want to ensure you’ve tried all non-surgical options first. Together, you’ll then agree on a treatment plan that’s right for you.

Connected to Care

For many people, the hardest part of surgery isn't the procedure itself. It's the uncertainty of not knowing what comes next. The JRC Care Pathway means you'll always know what's happening, and who to call. As a JRC patient, our care pathway supports you at every step, from your first appointment through to recovery.

Your JRC nurse is your point of contact throughout they'll take you through your pre-admission requirements, tests, imaging and appointments, and will organise the mobility and recovery equipment you'll need at home.

Time to meet your JRC nurse who’ll explain what’s ahead and how we’ll support you.

Pre-Surgery

As your surgery gets closer, we'll go through a pre-admission checklist together to make sure everything's in place for the day, and we'll let you know exactly what to expect when you arrive.

We'll go through any medications you need to stop taking, when you'll need to start fasting, and how your pain relief will keep you comfortable after surgery. This is also a really good opportunity to ask us any of those last-minute questions you might have.

We’ll go through all the final details with you, so everything’s in place for your admission and recovery at home.

Surgery

Even though you’ve been working towards this day for a while, it’s still normal to feel a little anxious. Your surgeon and anaesthetist will see you before you go in, so you can ask any questions still on your mind, and your JRC team will have everything place be right there to support you.

Hospital Stay

After surgery you will be up walking sooner than you might expect. Your pain relief will be managed closely. Before you leave, your JRC nurse will check in with you and help set you up for your recovery at home and go through what you can expect for the next few weeks.

Recovery

When you’re recovering at home, you won’t be on your own. We’ll check in along the way to see how you’re healing and how your physio’s going. If anything needs adjusting, we’ll adjust it. If you have concerns, call us. When you’re recovering, some days will be easier than others. On the harder days, it helps to remember how far you’ve come, look back to where you were a week ago and how much you’ve improved.
